7 Day Gorilla Trekking and Wildlife Tour – Uganda Safari
This is a great opportunity to explore Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for mountain gorillas tracking, Lake Bunyonyi and wildlife in Lake Mburo National park. This can be a guided / escorted or self drive Uganda safari depending on your choice and budget. Below is the detailed day by day itinerary;
Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi National Park.
Have an early morning breakfast at the hotel in Kampala, transfer to south western Uganda to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, you will have en-route lunch in Mbarara town and then proceed to the park. The park is commonly known for being the habitat to different wildlife such as 310 species of beautiful butterflies, 51 reptiles, 200 trees, 88 moths and an exceptional 120 species of mammal including 10 primates.
The most famous occupants of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park are the endangered mountain gorillas. The park protects over 340 mountain gorillas which is about half of the world’s remaining population in the wild. After this journey you will check in at Buhoma Lodge / Kitandala Tented Camp / Buhoma Community Camp / Mahogany springs lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After morning meal, transfer with your packed lunch to the headquarters of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for briefing before you start this lifetime gorilla trekking adventure. The gorilla trekking adventure some time takes 2 – 6 hours depending on these gorillas while looking for food and shelter, your will have an amazing time with these gentle giants for an hour when you meet them for taking observing, photographing and interacting with these amazing creators, after this lifetime adventure, you will go back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay as on day 1.
Day 3: Community walks in Bwindi – Lake Bunyonyi
Have your breakfast and go for a guided village walk where you will meet the communities doing their work, visit the local medicine men, the local breweries and the local schools. After this village tour, you will go back to lodge for lunch and then depart this wonderful area to Kabale town and proceed for dinner and overnight at Bird Nest Resort / Acadia Cottages or Bunyonyi Overland Resort.
Day 4: Lake Bunyonyi
Lake Bunyonyi is famously known for being the second deepest lake in African, surrounded by intensely terraced hill slips, Lake Bunyonyi has over 29 islands such as the bushara, Bwama among others. As its name indicates, Lake Bunyonyi, ‘Bunyonyi” actually means small birds in Luganda language, thus being called lake of birds, there are varieties of bird species that have already been recognizes in the area.
Early in the morning after having breakfast, you will go for a boat cruise around those 29 islands on the lake, experiencing the picturesque view of the terraced hills and variety of bird species. In afternoon after lunch you may choose to take a guided village walk exploring the communities around the lake, then after return back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay at your lodge as on day 3.
Day 5: Lake Bunyonyi – Lake Mburo National Park.
After a fully served breakfast at your lodge, you will get ready to leave the beautiful area of Lake Bunyonyi and transfer to Lake Mburo National Park, you will have en-route lunch in Mbarara town and the proceed to the park. Lake Mburo National Park, though it’s a relatively a small park as compared to other national parks in the country, it protects a wide range of wildlife such as 68 species of mammals and many other wildlife specie, Lake Mburo National Park is the only park that hosts the impala in the nation and the only one in the rift valley region which provide habitat to a large number of elands and the burchell’s Zebras. You will reach at the park in evening for dinner and overnight stay Mihingo Lodge / Acadia Cottages / Mantana Lodge / Rwonyo Camp.
Day 6: Lake Mburo National Park
After morning breakfast at the lodge, you will enjoy a game drive in the eastern part of park. The park is located approximately 240 kilometers by road, west of Kampala, Uganda’s capital and protects a wide variety of wildlife such as zebras, impala, buffaloes, and over three hundred (300) bird species.
After this great game drive in the park, you will return back to the lodge for relaxation and lunch. In the afternoon you will embark on boat cruise on the lake from Rwonyo camp site, the cruise will rewarding with a view of different water loving animals like crocodiles, hippos as well as different species of birds around the Lake Mburo including pelicans, heron, fish eagles and if your chance full may also see the rare shoe bill stork, after this adventurous trip, you will go back to the lodge for dinner and overnight at your lodge as on day 5.
Day 7: Transfer from Lake Mburo National Park to Kampala
In the morning after breakfast, you will hit the road and transfer back to Kampala through Masaka town where you will have your lunch. After lunch you will continue with journey and have stop at the equator for photograph and some educative words from your safari guide then after continue to Kampala for last minute shopping and then transfer to the Entebbe International Airport for your flight back home.
