Canopy Tourism in Nyungwe Forest National Park
Be at the “eye-to-eye level” with different primate species, and many bird species. Canopy walk is the ever hanging platform which allows tourists to see a variety of animals and bird species which are fond of inhabiting the upper scales of the forest. It is adventurous to be at the top of the tree canopy while viewing birds at a close range. It is the first in the region and just the third on the African continent.
The canopy walk way is 50 meters above the ground level, and 90 meters long. The dizzying platform is above a steep and deep valley trotting across massive forest.
The 200m walkway with three towers is the biggest in East Africa according to Rwanda development board. Spread over hundreds of square meters Nyungwe is said to be largest and most ancient Afro-Montane forest remaining in the East and Central Africa, dating back to the last ice age. It is amazing that Nyungwe forest is a home to 13 rare primate species in the world’s largest ever recorded arboreal troop of black/white colobus monkeys, over 300 species of birds and 100 types of orchid.
Nyungwe Forest and chimpanzee tracking is the ideal compliment to any gorilla safari. While in Nyungwe, you can dine and sleep in five-star Nyungwe Forest Lodge, Peace Guest House, Nyungwe Hill Top view Hotel, Gisakura Guest House or ORTPN Rest House among others.
