ITINERARY: 8 Days Uganda Rwanda primates tour and wildlife safari
Day 1: Arrival in Rwanda, Africa to start your tour.
Up on arrival at Kigali / Kanombe International Airport, our company representative (your driver guide) shall warmly welcome you and transfer to Serena Hotel in Kigali / Hotel Gorillas, relax with some massage for refreshment. Dinner and overnight in Kigali, Rwanda’s Capital.
Day 2: Travel to Virunga Volcanoes Gorilla Park – Rwanda
Morning breakfast is followed by a city tour in Kigali, visit Gisozi genocide memorial center, local art and craft shops as well as local markets. Later after lunch, drive northwards through majestic / undulating hills of Rwanda. It is a 2 hours drive from Kigali. Dinner and overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge / Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge / Hotel la Palme, Muhabura Hotel, Kinigi guest house.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking and Nature walk
Wake up early for a cup of tea / coffee and assemble to the park headquarters for registration and briefing about gorilla trekking in Rwanda. Group allocation follows and then proceed to the trekking start point. Gorilla trekking is a life time experience, goes through thick and slippery jungle grounds in the Bamboo forests. Time takes ranges between 2-7 hours depending on their movements. The thrilling encounter with a gorilla family with their leaders (Silverback gorillas) is worth the effort. Sight and stay with gorillas is one hour for observation and photographing.
Retire for late lunch at the lodge; time permitting, take an evening nature walk or cultural trip to nearby Rwanda cultural Villages. Dinner and over night at your lodge on “Day 3”.
Day 4: Track Golden Monkeys or Hike to Dian Fossey tombs, Departure
Today we go for golden monkey tracking in Volcanoes national park, or hike to Dian Fossey Grave yard, at the former Karisoke Research Center. This is where the late Dian Fossey spent close to 20 years studying about and habituating Mountain Gorillas. This hike is so spectacular, goes through thick bamboo forest and afro-montane habitats, with criss-crossed trails and tracks of forest buffalo and elephant! Expect an encounter with all sorts of wildlife as you make our way up and down to Karisoke, nestled between the beautiful volcanic peaks of Karismbi and Visoke.
Later after lunch, cross the boarder to Uganda through Kisoro (the Switzerland of Africa), to Bwindi Impenetrable National park, dinner and overnight at Nkuringo gorilla camp, Nshongi gorilla resort, Chameleon Hill or Wagtail Eco Camp.
Day 5: Second gorilla trek in Uganda
This is the day for a second gorilla tracking adventure tour, this time in Uganda, southern bwindi National Park. Tracking gorillas in Bwindi (Uganda) is much strenuous than Volcanoes National park (Rwanda)! The thrilling encounter with a gorilla family with their leaders (Silverback gorillas) is worth the effort. Sight and stay with gorillas is one hour for observation and photographing.
Retire for late lunch at the lodge; time permitting, take an evening nature walk or cultural trip to nearby Batwa cultural Villages/Pygmies. Dinner and over night at Nkuringo gorilla camp, Nshongi gorilla resort, Chameleon Hill or Wagtail Eco Camp.
Day 6: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth national Park (Uganda)
Morning breakfast is followed by travelling to Queen Elizabeth Wildlife Park with packed lunch. Expect an enroute game drive in Ishasha sector in southern Queen Elizabeth National Park, a home to tree climbing lions, Elephants, Buffaloes, antelopes and primates among others. Dinner and overnight at Enganzi lodge, Mweya safari lodge, Twin lake lodge, Katara lodge or Kyambura game lodge among others.
Day 7: Wild Chimpanzee tracking and Boat cruise on Kazinga channel
Morning Chimps tracking in Kyambura gorge, expect an encounter with other primates like olive baboons, red-tailed monkeys, grey checked mangabeys, giant forest hog, vervets and many more. After lunch, embark on a fantastic baot cruise on kazinga channel with hundreds of Hippos, so far the highest concentration in Africa! Other animals include huge Nile crocodiles, herds of buffaloes and Elephants resting on the shores and 611 bird species including the rare Malachite and Pied Kingfishers, White-winged Terns, Swamp Fly-catcher, Grey-capped Warbler, Grey-headed Kingfisher, and shoebill stork among others. Dinner and overnight as on DAY 6.
Day 8: Drive back to Kigali or proceed to Kampala
This is the last day of your trip in Rwanda and Uganda. After a morning game drive, we can either drive back to Kigali or Kampala (Uganda’s capital) for your evening flight back home. You may decide to stay for overnight in any of the two cities in Africa.
